Cincy Magazine: Keeping the Promise
In November 2016, Cincinnati voters overwhelmingly approved Issue 44 — a Cincinnati Public School levy that designated $15 million to expand access to quality preschool programs.
Just a year later, Cincinnati Preschool Promise is up and running, with more than 1,000 students receiving tuition assistance at preschools throughout the city, as reported by Cincy Magazine in its December issue.
Here are some highlights from the article:
- There are more than 1,000 students enrolled at over 80 preschool programs throughout Cincinnati.
- Tuition assistance is available for families living up to 200 percent of the federal poverty line, which is about $49,000 for a family of four. This is what Cheri Phipps, administrator at Little Lambs Child Care, calls a “godsend” for some parents.
- Preschool has an impact on students, as seen by Holy Family Catholic School in East Price Hill.
