Wage survey underway to better support community providers

Cincinnati Preschool Promise is working with the University of Cincinnati Economics Center to explore current wages of community providers throughout the city.

Through a survey of community providers, the organization will gain greater insight into the current salary structures, pay scales and benefits of Cincinnati’s early education workforce. Results will guide Cincinnati Preschool Promise next steps in increasing quality in early childhood offerings.

“In order to reach and maintain quality, preschool providers need qualified, experienced educators in the classroom,” Stephanie Byrd said. “A competitive salary is one way to attract and retain talent. We will learn about the current landscape of wages and benefits so we can move toward understanding how to better support preschool providers within the Cincinnati Public School district boundary.”

Community providers received the survey before the holidays. Results are expected by the end of January.

Cincinnati Preschool Promise has a designated ad hoc committee focused on this work. The committee has been meeting monthly since August and includes representatives from Cincinnati Public Schools, Cincinnati Preschool Promise, local universities, the AMOS Project and community providers.
