Cincinnati Preschool Promise kicks off second year, expands eligibility to serve more families
As Cincinnati Preschool Promise kicked off its second school year, the organization surpassed 2017-18 enrollment trends and announced a plan to serve even more local families.
The organization announced today that assistance will now expand to families with 3- or 4-year-old children living up to 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) – equal to $62,750 for a family of four. Tuition assistance has been available to families living up to 200% FPL – equal to $50,200 per year for a family of four.
“We want to ensure we first reach out to families who need it most, and we are inspired by the number of students served in our first year,” Executive Director Shiloh Turner said. “But we also know preschool tuition is a tremendous expense for many Cincinnati families. This eligibility expansion will allow us to support even more children throughout the second school year.”
Today, there are more than 1,100 students receiving tuition assistance, compared to roughly 740 in September 2017. Throughout the entire 2017-18 school year, 1,341 students received Cincinnati Preschool Promise tuition assistance.
“We are well on our way to meeting and exceeding our year-one enrollment numbers,” Turner said. “This means more students who are prepared to succeed in kindergarten and life.”
Tuition assistance can be used at more than 80 Preschool Promise-approved public and community-based preschools within the Cincinnati Public School district boundary. Approved providers are quality-rated with three, four or five stars from the State of Ohio’s “Step Up to Quality” star-rating system, which is administered by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. A list of providers can be found on the here.
Preschool enrollment is ongoing. Families are encouraged to apply with their preschool provider or call 513-447-4277. Preschool providers within the Cincinnati Public School boundary may apply to participate at www.cincy-promise.org/providers.
